Vivekananda International Foundation was inaugurated on 1st Dec. 2009

Vivekananada Kendra A grand ceremony which marked the inauguration of Vivekananda International Foundation was held in its premises at 4.30 pm on 1st December 09. The revered Mata Amritanandamayi showering her benedictions on the Ftion was the main feature of the inauguration ceremony. Justice M.N Venkatachaliah, the former Chief Justice of India, delivered key-note address. Smt Vani Jairam, the famous classical singer was also present in the inauguration ceremony.

Vimarsha, the monthly discussion session of Vivekananda Kendra International was held in the premises of Vivekananda Kendra International at 6.30 pm on 30th October 09. The Vimarsha started with the chanting of the Vedic mantras. Shri Ajit Doval, the honorary director of Vivekananda Kendra International introduced the topic and Shri Prakash Singh IPS, the speaker. Mananeeya Nivedita Didi, the honorable vice-president of Vivekananda Kendra Kanyakumari chaired the session.

VIMARSHA : Probity in public life

Vimarsha, the monthly discussion session of Vivekananda Kendra International was conducted in the premises of Vivekananda Kendra International at 6.30 pm on 30th September. Shri Bhure Lal (IAS Retd), currently the chairman of the pollution control board was the speaker and ‘Probity in Public life’ was the topic of the session. The Vimarsha started as usual with the chanting of the Vedic invocations by Shri Indraprakash. Shri C.V. Gopinath introduced the speaker and the topic of the Vimarsh to the audience.

Vimarsh on China, July 2009Vimarsh, the monthly discussion session of Vivekananda Kendra International, was held in its premises at 6.30 pm on 24th July 09. Sri Ajit Doval, the honourary director of VKI introduced the topic and the speakers, Sri T.C.A Rangachari and General J.F Jacob. General Jacob initiated the discussion and gave a brief account of his experiences with the Chinese.

VIMARSH- INDIAN POLITY: WHERE ARE WE HEADED?

Vimarsh, the monthly discussion session of Vivekananda Kendra International was held in its premises at 6.30 pm on 25th June 09. Sri Ajit Doval, the honourary director of Vivekananda Kendra International, gave a brief introduction of the topic of the day and the speaker, Sri Govindacharya. Sri Dovalji explained that the individual, the society and the political thoughts along with the values constituted the radii of concentric circles which converge to a common centre, that was our national consciousness. The political tenets prevalent in the society not only decide the strategic future of the nation, but also give an orientation to it.

Yoga Shiksha Shibir 2009

Vivekananda Kendra Kanyakumari organized an All India Yoga Shiksha Shibir at Vivekanandapuram, Kanyakumari from 5-19 June 2009. In all 41 participated from Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Goa, Kolkata, Maharashtra, Tamilnadu, Karnataka, Delhi and Gujarat, of which 23 were brothers and 18 sisters. The camp was conducted in English and Hindi simultaneously.

The topics dealt were: Patanjali Yoga Sutra, Indian Culture, Karma Yoga, Challenges before India, Swami Vivekananda, Eknathji Ranade, Story of Vivekananda Rock Memorial, Vivekananda Kendra. The Participants visited Vivekananada Rock Memorial, Kanyakumari Temple, Suchindram Temple and did trekking on Marut Malai hill. Intensive Practical Sessions on Yoga, Pranayama and meditations were held daily. Group discussions, Games and Happy assembly were also held.

VIMARSH : EMERGING TRENDS IN PAKISTAN AND AFGHANISTAN AND THEIR IMPLICATIONS FOR INDIA

Vimarsh, the monthly discussion series was held on 29th March at 5.30 pm in the premises of Vivekananda Kendra International, Chanakyapuri. The topic was 'Emerging trends in Pakistan and Afghanistan and its implications for India'. It was conducted in the form of a panel discussion which was presided by Sri Vijay Kapoor, former Lieutenant Governor of Delhi & vice chairman VKI. Sri Satish Chandra- the former Indian High Commissioner to Pakistan, Sri Ajit Doval, Former Director IB & honorary director of VKI, Lieutenant General Shontanu Choudhry, Former vice chief of Army staff and Air Chief Marshal (Retd) Krishnaswamy shared the panel. Sri Vijai Kapoor initiated the Vimarsh by giving a brief description of the speakers and the topic. He explained how the scenario in Pakistan was heading towards a catastrophe, which could have alarming consequences for the whole world.

VIMARSH- INDIA: FOREIGN POLICY OPTIONS AND CHALLENGES BEFORE THE NEXT GOVERNMENT

Vimarsh, the monthly discussion series of Vivekananda Kendra International was held on 27th February 09 at 6.30 pm in the premises of Vivekananda Kendra International, Chanakyapuri. The topic of the Vimarsh was 'India: foreign policy options and challenges before the next government' and the speaker was Shri Rajiv Sikri, the former secretary, ministry of external affairs. The vimarsh started as usual with the invocations. The day being the auspicious occasion of Sri Ramakrishna Jayanti, special prayers were chanted by Sri Pravin Dabholkar. It was initiated by Shri Ajit Doval, the honorary director of VKI. and he gave a brief description of the hostile environment in which our nation was placed. He also gave a brief introduction of the speaker.

Medical Camp in Margharita

Vivekananda Kendra, Kanyakumari, Project : Arun Jyoti organised a free operation camp in association with Coal India Ltd, North East Coal Fields, Margharita, Assam, from 16th to 21st February 2009.

For this camp, Remote Area Medical, Knoxville, U.S.A. sent a team of seven volunteer doctors. They were: Dr. G.S.Maddiwar, Dr. Krishna Deshpande, Dr. Vinayak Kulkarni, Dr. Anuradha V. Kulkarni, Dr. Mohini Gehani and Dr. Harish Pariani.

The Mobile Medical Unit of Arun Jyoti started screening the patients from December 2008 in Tirap, Changlang, Lohit, Lower Dibang Valley, west Siang and East Siang districts of Arunachal Pradesh.
In this camp, 89 patients were screened and 34 patients were operated for Gall Bladder Stone, Appendicitis, Hernia, Lumps etc.

The Coal India authority extended their full support for the cause.

Symposium on role of priest conducted

ITANAGAR, Feb 23: The institution of priesthood is as old as existence of our tribal society and priest should continue to cast their god gifted spell to protect and promote traditional faith and values among all members of the societies , said Er. L. Khimhun, Secretary General Rangfra Faith Promotion Society during one-day symposium on the ‘Role of Priest in Mishmi Society’ as Chief Guest at Tamladu Hall on February 22.
